We are Dutch and we love adventure!
When married to a great husband who happens to work for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, you have to love to explore the world. In August 2011 we – Ceciel, Arjen, Thomas and Benjamin – left The Netherlands for our first big adventure abroad. For 2 years we lived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Though we intended to return to The Netherlands after Tanzania, we decided otherwise. Why? Well. We found out we love to explore, getting to know different cultures and traditions, hearing different sounds, seeing different landscapes.
And so the adventure continued. In Israel. We lived in Herzlyia Pituach, just north of Tel Aviv, from summer 2013 till January 2017. Israel has been great for us. Thomas and Benjamin were 4 and 6 when we arrived and have experienced living in the Middle East to the fullest. Arjen had an amazing job at the Netherlands Embassy in Tel Aviv and I quickly became intensively involved with the American International School in Israel where I served as a Board Member for 2,5 years. The last 1,5 years as Vice Chair. Alongside that,, writing became more and more a passion. I hope to finalize my first book by summer 2017.
Now that I am writing this ‘About us’ section, we are in the middle of the final preparations for our next move. A big one this time. We will leave this side of the world to move to Lima, Peru. As of January 25th Arjen will be working as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Netherlands Embassy in Lima.
With this weblog I want to take you – virtually – with us on our journey! Please leave a message if you feel like it!
